SUMMARY:Tamale Making Workshop and Tamale Happy Hour with Nathalie Herling
DESCRIPTION:Following the rich Mexican tradition of making Tamales for Christmas we will have a hands on start to finish Tamale making workshop. A fun gathering to do what Mexican cooks have enjoyed for centuries to do – cook and chat\, gossip\, laugh while we make tamales. We will make traditional corn husk tamales with pork and vegetarian options. As well as sweet tamales\, a Norteña Christmas traditions that reaches into Texas and Californa and Colombian style banana leaf tamales with chicken\, egg and olives!! \nFor drinking we will make Cafe de Olla and Colombian hot chocolate\, classic holiday beverages\, to keep us caffeinated to make all these Tamales! You will be taking home lots of tamales to share with family and friends or freeze to enjoy later. We will be using clay pots to make our delicious fillings and masa. Even steaming too! \nRecommended you bring an apron\, take home containers and lots of good stories to share. This workshop will likely go on for at least 4 hours as we cook\, laugh and make a lovely communal mess making delicious tamales. Might turn into a Tamale Fiesta with Vino Caliente after we are done! \nEntrance details will be sent to participants. DESCRIPTION:Discovery the amazing possibilities of relief printmaking using linoleum. Relief prints\, a time-honoured printmaking form\, are enjoying a resurgence now and are a very satisfying way of making art. Linocut is a direct and simple printmaking technique in which a design is cut into a piece of linoleum with a knife\, chisel or gouge\, rolled up with ink\, and printed by hand or with a press. First\, we’ll discover how to create compelling designs\, how to transfer drawings to the lino-block\, and how to use the various tools to create different marks\, textures\, and lines. We’ll cut and hand print a simple design using those marks. From there\, you’ll have an opportunity to create and cut your own images and experiment with colour\, using ink\, paint\, pencil\, and/or collage elements. Nontoxic\, water-based inks and cleanup materials will be used. \nDrop-ins are welcome (based on space availability) or you can attend several classes for more in-depth study\, or if you’re working on a more involved project. Reference material will be supplied but feel free to bring photos\, sketches\, drawings\, photo-copies and /or printed images\, stencils\, and paper samples. You’ll leave with some beautiful original hand-pulled prints. A wonderful way to begin art making or start again if you haven’t done any for a while. No experience necessary. Suitable for both beginners and more advanced students.

Come paint on the beach with us every Tuesday morning.  ART VallARTa offers Plein Air painting on the Playa Los Muertos beach.  Adrian Rojas\, one of Puerto Vallarta’s most popular painting instructor will help you with your beach theme painting\, guiding you through the painting process. Open to beginners and experienced painters. Enjoy relaxed painting in nature.We set up the easels on the Playa de los Muertos Puerto Vallarta beach. \nMeet at ART VallARTa at 8:45am to gather supplies\, paints and canvases\, followed by a short walk to the beach. Drop-ins are welcome but pre-registration encouraged\, so we can assure easels and supplies and adequate instruction for everyone.You can paint in whichever medium you prefer\, acrylic\, oil\, watercolor… \nAdrian our instructor is well versed in a variety of mediums.Please let us know in advance if you are not going to work in acrylic. Artist materials of other mediums may be available free of charge if we know in advance of the class. Easels\, sun umbrella\, stool and basic painting supplies will be supplied.Bring a hat\, sun screen\, even a swimsuit… if you like. \nPaint\, brushes and easels included in class price. DESCRIPTION:ART VallARTa is very honored to have as October\, Artist in Residence\, the Master of construction Alebrijes\, Uzziel Alvarez Fuentes from Mexico City. \nAs part of his residency\, Uzziel will offer one very special workshop in the art of making Alebrije traditional sculptures. This paper mache and construction tradition began with the works of Pedro Linarez in the 1910’s. \nThis workshop will be a one week half day afternoon workshop where you will construct \,build \, prepare the surface and paint your own interpretation of a tabletop alebrije. \nThis 5 day\, Alebrije Workshop with Master Uzziel Alvarez Fuentes will start \nMonday October 22 and end Friday Oct 26. \nClass times are 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. \nCost for the full 5 day workshop is $2880 pesos.  Basic materials will be included.
