Learn tips and\ntricks for combining realistic and abstract imagery\, collage and painting\,\nbrushwork and handwork\, loose and tight drawing and painting styles. Learn\nhow to integrate a variety of materials into expressive artworks. Expand\nand enhance your approach to visual art with this mashup of techniques and\ntools! \nDay 1: Using a variety of mediums and techniques\, we will experiment with\nmixed media on different kinds of support\, including a variety of papers\,\nmylar (acetate sheets)\, wood\, matte board\, etc. In addition to the\ntraditional collage gluing technique\, we’ll explore a number of related\nexperimental processes\, including decollage (peeling away pasted paper to\nreveal hidden images or textures beneath)\, dechirage (tearing paper)\, and\ngrattage and sgraffito (scraping and scratching to create texture and\npattern). \nDay 2: Explore varieties of abstraction and how formal contradictions and\npolarities contribute to making compelling art. DESCRIPTION:Following the rich Mexican tradition of making Tamales for Christmas we will have a hands on start to finish Tamale making workshop. A fun gathering to do what Mexican cooks have enjoyed for centuries to do – cook and chat\, gossip\, laugh while we make tamales. We will make traditional corn husk tamales with pork and vegetarian options. As well as sweet tamales\, a Norteña Christmas traditions that reaches into Texas and Californa and Colombian style banana leaf tamales with chicken\, egg and olives!! \nFor drinking we will make Cafe de Olla and Colombian hot chocolate\, classic holiday beverages\, to keep us caffeinated to make all these Tamales! You will be taking home lots of tamales to share with family and friends or freeze to enjoy later. We will be using clay pots to make our delicious fillings and masa. Even steaming too! \nRecommended you bring an apron\, take home containers and lots of good stories to share. This workshop will likely go on for at least 4 hours as we cook\, laugh and make a lovely communal mess making delicious tamales. Might turn into a Tamale Fiesta with Vino Caliente after we are done! \nEntrance details will be sent to participants. Tom sings classic songs about moving on\, starting over\, and following your dreams\, drawn from Broadway\, the American Songbook\, swing\, Latin and pop.\n\n\nTom Signore is a San Francisco Bay Area based jazz vocalist\, who has performed at many local house parties\, bars\, and clubs\, including Society Cabaret and Savanna Jazz Club. He has sung and toured with the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus for many years\, and has performed in several community musical theater productions with the Marquee Theater troupe in Santa Rosa\, CA. Tom studied vocal and instrumental jazz at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley\, CA\, and his warm baritone voice\, and gentle\, laid-back style is a reliable crowd pleaser. Tom’s repertoire includes swing of the 40’s and 50’s\, Latin\, American Songbook standards\, and classic pop.

DESCRIPTION:Skill in drawing is the foundation for all successful paintings and other artistic exploration. While gaining knowledge of the fundamental principles of perception—light\, plane-structure\, tonal value\, perspective\, proportion—students in Bart’s classes will learn to construct images that realistically and accurately interpret the form and texture in space. The drawing class will consist of the process of understanding the essentials of composition\, enhanced light effects and directing the viewer’s gaze which provides the opportunity to develop a more complete drawing. This solid foundation will enable students to express their personal creative vocabulary more clearly and effectively.
